Update Update Update!!!
The house renovation is motoring along. And continuing with the metaphor…. sometimes it is a smooth, carefree drive and sometimes it is a bumpy bumpy road, ya’ll
Lets get the bad news out of the way. My flooring was supposed to go in on Wednesday and the carpet went in fine. But my vinyl, which was going in the kitchen and the bathrooms, came in damaged so I had to make a decision to either wait a week to have it installed (which was beyone my move in date) or go with something they had in stock. I found some that was okay so it got installed Thursday. I went over on my lunch break from work and it was fine. Three hours later I got a call from my painter to tell me that a water pipe had opened up under the sink and the kitchen and living room was flooded. I am very blessed that he caught it before it had run longer. As it is the plumber was able to fix it right away and only some of the brand new living room laminate wood is ruined.
So on to the good news. Things are really coming along. The carpet is laid— so the blue and yellow carpet squares are covered up…. the are still there though…. lurking just below the surface…..
The flooring is actually all finished except for the repairs that will need to be done once the water has a chance to dry out and extend the damage as far as it is going to go. And I didn’t realize the carpet wouldn’t be laid up over this little concrete ledge in this room so I have to figure that out too.
The painting should be done this weekend.
Parker’s mural is mostly done. I have a few finishing touches yet to do! I will show you that process in another post.
The bathroom should be done this weekend. My poor contractor has had a rough time with the fixtures I picked out and the bathroom turned out to be a bigger project than expected.
But he has been great. If you need some work done I can highly recomend Travis Andrus Construction and would be happy to give you his contact information. A good contractor is hard to find and he has held my hand through this whole process like a trooper. Once I am on to the next phase I hope to have him do some build ins in my living room on either side of the fireplace!
Move in is this coming Wednesday the 6th so I am busy packing and labeling. It is hard to believe I am going through another move so soon but I am very very excited!!!

You see your own reflection
You don’t even care

4) He helps my cardio health by encouraging exercise (running away from me in the park) and making my heart beat faster (from fear) and reminding me that naps are really important
#3) He does a great job cleaning the house
#2) I am getting another shot at truly embracing every lifestage of a child because I know now how fast he will grow up!
But The #1 Reason I am blessed to be a”Living With My Grandson” kinda Nah Nah–
I get all the kisses I want!
There is a part of me that really wants to be a “Color Paint Person”, that is to say that I wish I liked painting my living spaces with POPS of color. I wish I did; but I don’t. I am a “Neutral Paint Person”. That isn’t because I am BORING and UNIMAGINATIVE…. it is because I like to keep my options open. I like to change things up. I like that I can re-decorate off in any direction I choose without having to re-paint or try to fit in with the Neon Pink walls. I conceed that is not the trendy way to be and that most of the people around me are “Color Paint People” but I have finally accepted that I am now and possibly forever will be “Neutral”
I tried. Oh yes my children, I have tried. I spend a whole lot of time in Lowes looking at paint samples. I moved them to other parts of the section to hold them up to different lights and different backgrounds. I took home about 100 sample chips. I even bought several quarts of different colors and painted small sections of the walls in my new house. But no matter how hard I tried…. it came to the inevitable conclusion that my house is mainly going to be painted gray inside. I mean, gray IS a color you know! Parkers room will have a mural. Lauren’s room has a bright pink accent wall. But my room: Gray. The bathrooms: Gray. The Living room and office and hallway and foyers? Gray.
What finally made me solve The Great Colored Paint Dilemma of 2015?
One of the paint colors I liked at Lowes was a kind of light tealish seafoam bluish color called Splashy Seafoam Sparkle. In the store it looked perfect. I put some up in the kitchen where I wanted to use it for an accent wall and it was perfect. I painted some in the dining room area and it was hideous. It looked like neon blue. I opened the window thinking it would look different in natural light and it did: more hideous. Did some prankster switch out my paint? Was there some sort of conspiracy to sabotage my resolve to become a “Color Paint Person” plan? What the heck??? The contractors and my new neighbors just happened to be there to weigh in and the consensus was “Yuck” Or in the words of Jimmy Fallon “EW”.
This brings me to a Very Important Home Renovation Tip: Always get a sample of the paint color you think you want to use and paint the wall inside the house where it is going to go. Lighting is everything. The kind of lighting that will be used in that room (natural, fluorescent, light bluby whatever normal light bulbs are) makes a huge difference in how that paint is going to look. I am SO GLAD I did this because I would have hated that color in my dining room! We tried another color and it was just too dark. So I decided I should go back to Lowes and try again. There I am standing before the plethora of a million different colors and shades and debating my options. Holding up samples to white, to gray, to other colors. Finally I choose a new color and have a sample made up to take home. This one would be “IT” It was a little more to the gray and the blue— a little less green. Less bright. It would be perfect.
(Pause for effect)
IT WAS THE SAME COLOR!!
(insert scary music here)
Which just makes me want to Bang My Head On The Wall (Bang Bang Bang)
So I sat with myself and said “It is OKAY if you are not a Color Paint Person. You need to be true to yourself and embrace the Neutral Design Aesthetic. Because You are Good Enough You Are Strong Enough and Dog Gone It, People Like You!!
So, looks like the dining room is going to be a nice gray.

- If you are not part of the GeeezBlog Community Page on Facebook, you are really missing out. This past Friday we had our first Feebie Friday where the 25th commenter won a gift card to Sephora or Lowes. Except there were a few glitches. Two of the busiest competitors were posting to my personal facebook page and not the Community page. Only one person, an actual rocket scientist, was in the right place. So this went on and on and eventually it got so confusing that I couldnt pick a winner.
- It was at this point that I suggested that we use “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock” to settle the matter.
- Now, I would hope that all of you would understand how this game is played but, to my surprise, my cousin who I will not name to avoid embarrassment
BECKYDid not understand the whole history of this new evolution of the classic game. In fact, and I quote, “I choose that one cuz I miss Leonard Nemo”.
- For my former cousin, let me explain.
- If you do not watch Big Bang Theory you are really missing out. Binge watch now
- This game was first introduced on the show as a way of setting a dispute between Sheldon & Raj in the episode entitled “The Lizard Spock Expansion”. In the episode they both choose Spock over and over again. Original game credit is given to Sam Klass (I don’t know who he is but I don’t want to get sued)
- Here is how the game is played and players are defeated:
- Scissors cut Paper
- Paper covers Rock
- Rock crushes Lizard
- Lizard poisons Spock
- Spock smashes Scissors
- Scissors decapitates Lizard
- Lizard eats Paper
- Paper disproves Spock
- Spock vaporizes Rock
- Rock crushes Scissors
So, of course everyone choose Spock.
Becky chooses “Tree” Seriously Becky, what am I gonna do with you? Then said “I meant paper”
Brandon chooses Spock again.
Becky defeats Brandon (Paper disproves Spock)
Cathy chooses Lizard for the WIN!!! (Lizard eats Paper)

So on to the really important people in my life: The Fenner Furgang
At the moment there is only one member of the Fenner Furgang. Little does he know that is about to change!
This is Figaro.
Figaro once looked this this when we rescued him from the bushes he had been hiding in after crossing a busy street. Figaro (or ‘Figs’ as he is usually called) was only a few weeks old and near death. He recovered well and now he is the beautiful mancat that you see before you. Sure he has emotional issues but don’t we all! He doesn’t like people except for a few choosen ones. He likes to take a swipe at us when we walk by.
To show his gratitude he often helps me write and work on my laptop!
You Bore Me Human!!
